The OFFICIAL Griffin Mission One patch is NOW AVAILABLE for Astrobotic staff!
In anticipation of Griffin’s historic mission, Astrobotic has released a commemorative mission patch, complete with meaningful symbolism.
ABOUT THE MISSION PATCH: The main feature of the patch is a griffin, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. This majestic beast is described in folklore as a protector of legendary treasures, in this case the mission’s payloads:
-
Astrolab’s LTV precursor
-
European Space Agency (ESA)’s Landcam-X
-
Mission Control’s Spacefarer™ funded by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA)
-
Astrobotic’s CubeRover
The teardrop shape represents Griffin’s journey from Earth to the Moon. The majestic Griffin is seated to represent our team “sticking” the landing in 2025. Honoring Peregrine’s mission heritage in the patch design, the griffin’s head is turned to the left to meet the peregrine’s gaze when the patches are displayed together.
There are three stars at the top center of the patch’s design, representing the three space agencies, NASA, ESA, CSA, that are joining Astrobotic on its mission.
The Moon graphic at the bottom of the patch represents the landing site at the lunar south pole.
